Paul has been an entrepreneur in successful start-ups, has had experience in M&A both from the selling and buying side, is a mentor to new deep-tech ventures coming out of MIT, Harvard, Boston University and the University of Massachusetts, and is an occasional angel investor. He has been a mentor for Cyprus Seeds since 2020.
Paul is the former CEO & Co-Chairman of Energetiq Technology, Inc., a company he co-founded in Boston in 2004 and now a subsidiary of Hamamatsu Photonics. Paul’s career has focused on the technical sales and marketing of products used to manufacture semiconductor devices, particularly those products that incorporate high-intensity plasmas. Prior to Energetiq, he served as Vice President of Corporate Marketing at MKS Instruments (NASDAQ: MKSI) from 1997 to 2004, responsible for corporate strategy and communications. During his time at MKS, he was a member of the executive team that managed MKS’s IPO in 1999 and the acquisition of 12 companies by MKS, including his previous employer, ASTeX, where he had served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Prior to ASTeX, he was a member of the start-up team for Plasma Technology, a semiconductor capital equipment company that was acquired by Oxford
Instruments plc, (LSE: OXIG). Paul Blackborow holds an MA degree in Engineering from Cambridge University.
