Chris Christou

Associate Professor at University of Nicosia

Chris Christou is an Associate Professor and Head of the Interactive and Creative Technologies Lab at the University of Nicosia. Raised in an East London suburb, Chris attended night classes to gain entry to his first-degree course at the University of Sussex, where he studied Philosophy and Cognition under the supervision of Margaret Boden, author of AI and Natural Man in 1984. Fascinated by the workings of the human mind and perception, he completed a Masters at Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh, followed by a DPhil at Oxford University, where he explored photo-realistic graphics for studying visual perception. At the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, he joined a team studying spatial cognition using Virtual Reality and has worked in industry as a Scientist at Unilever Research UK, introducing new technologies such as Virtual Reality in the early 2000s. At the University of Nicosia, he has introduced many innovative courses, including Virtual Reality for Computer Science and Multimedia students, together with collaboration with the Institute for the Future (IFF) where he teaches Extended Reality (XR) for the new Masters degree in Metaverse. He is a strong advocate for the provision of accessible information and education for all members of society.
